Welcome!
This has been a banner year for our show production team at E&S. In June, we released Experience the Aurora featuring groundbreaking fulldome time-lapse photography in the Arctic Circle. In July, we released Secret Lives of Stars, narrated by Sir Patrick Stewart, featuring stories of the life cycles of a variety of stars in the universe. Next month we are set to release Lamps of Atlantis, narrated by Terry O'Quinn. All the while we are working on two shows for release next year: 2012 - Ancient Skies, Ancient Mysteries, and our first 3D fulldome show, Robot Explorers 3D. We have also a number of third-party shows to our catalog, including a number of new giant screen film transfers. Enjoy the newsletter, and please contact us soon if we can help you with shows for your digital theater. Sincerely,
Michael Daut Evans & Sutherland

In this coproduction between Evans & Sutherland and the Eugenides Foundation Planetarium in Athens, Greece, our search for the lost continent of Atlantis takes us on a journey through the astronomical knowledge of the ancient Greeks. How did the constellations get their names? What different patterns did ancient cultures see in the sky? Was Atlantis a real place? Did it really sink into the sea?
In this new fulldome show scheduled for worldwide release in November 2011, we will uncover clues to help us solve this age-old mystery. We will have a 40 minute version and a 25 minute version of the show available. Narrated by Terry O'Quinn, John Locke from TV's hit show, LOST. Sound design and mix by Lucasfilm's Skywalker Sound.

Our clients are excited about our new show. Here's what they had to say:
"To say that the 'Aurora Experience' is literally 'out of this world' is certainly an understatement. Just ask any and every one of the 2,000 persons that attended our special showings to celebrate the "2011 Summer Solstice". People waited patiently for hours to see it (something that Greeks are not very famous for)! And their glowing faces after each showing was the best evidence that they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. What was even more gratifying is that we received hundreds of comments of appreciation in writing, something that has never happened in such numbers for any of our previous shows the last 8 years. 'Experience the Aurora' is indeed a show to remember!" -- Dionysios Simopoulos - Eugenides Foundation Planetarium, Athens, Greece.
"I salute you for this marvelous show. It made a deep impression, and I would love to play it at our theater. The quality and story with your testimonials is just wonderful! What an achievement in technology and beauty! Thank you! -- Dr. Thomas Kraupe - Planetarium Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany.
Experience the Aurora was released worldwide in June 2011. 25 minutes.

In Production...
Robot Explorers 3D and 2012: Ancient Skies, Ancient Mysteries
Last issue we talked about our first fulldome 3D show, Robot Explorers 3D, where we will visit our Solar System through the eyes and ears of the magnificent robots who have explored it in our place. This show is scheduled to be released in mid 2012.
Early next year, we will release a timely show that examines the myth of the Mayan calendar predicting the end of the world on December 21, 2012. In 2012: Ancient Skies, Ancient Mysteries, we will also visit other ancient cultures to see what they observed in the sky, and what they came to believe. It is a fascinating look at the universe through the eyes of our ancestors.

LIFE: A Cosmic Story
E&S is proud to be a distributor for this year's winner of Best Fulldome Program at the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival.
Produced by the California Academy of Sciences, Life: A Cosmic Story begins in a redwood forest, with the sounds of wind and life. One redwood looms large, until we approach its branches and enter one of its leaves, adjusting our perspective to microscopic scales inside a cell. We see a pared-down version of its inner workings, learning about the process of photosynthesis and the role of DNA. This scene sets the stage for the story of life.
We then leap backward billions of years to the origin of elements themselves. The early Universe contained mostly dark matter, which drew hydrogen and helium together to form the first stars. The carbon and heavier elements required by living organisms came from generations of stars.
