E&S Announces Revolutionary Fulldome 3D Stereo Technology

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, September 2, 2008, Evans & Sutherland Computer Corporation (E&S) (NASDAQ: ESCC) announced today two revolutionary technologies for creating completely wraparound fulldome stereoscopic 3D experiences. The first is 3D rendering software for prerendered fulldome video from Micoy Corporation, and the second is Digistar 3D software for real time stereo viewing computer graphics.

In an exclusive partnership with Micoy Corporation, E&S will provide Micoy's revolutionary new Hologramic 3D® rendering software that creates prerendered fulldome stereo anywhere you look inside a dome. Traditional front-facing stereo techniques only can produce the stereo effect in the front center of a dome. To the right and left, the stereo effect flattens, and to the back of the dome the stereo effect inverts causing the foreground and background to switch places. Micoy's Hologramic 3D rendering software for fulldome video imbeds the stereo separation across fulldome animation master frames allowing the stereo effect to work equally well everywhere around the dome. E&S is the exclusive distributor of Micoy's software in the planetarium and science center markets and will provide the software as an option with its Digistar fulldome show production systems. E&S currently offers a Micoy rendering tool set license which will be available for single workstations or site licenses. It is currently available for use for Mental Ray 3D rendering software for both 3D Studio Max and Maya animation software. In addition, E&S has several 3D fulldome movies in development using Micoy software.

Producer Doug Yellin of Matilda Production Services (3D projects include – "U23D" and "Star Trek- Borg Encounter") states "Micoy is the key to unlocking the next generation of immersive experiences!"

A leader in fulldome 3D, E&S was the first company in the world to demonstrate fulldome stereo imagery at the 2006 International Planetarium Society convention in Melbourne, Australia. E&S has recently released a major software update for its Digistar 3 system that incorporates several real time stereo processing and viewing methods including patent-pending real time Spherical 3D™ software, which can be used with various passive and active stereo projection systems. E&S' Spherical 3D software provides accurate stereo for real time computer graphics across the entire surface of the dome and complements the strong set of stereo features available for Digistar systems.

The applications of these fulldome 3D experiences are bounded only by one's imagination. This format gives the producer a new 3D world to work in allowing them to literally be inside their animation. The impact of this new canvas will allow for any market, from entertainment to architecture to training applications to create totally new experiences in fulldome 3D.

E&S Vice President and General Manager, Kirk Johnson, said "Micoy's breakthrough 3D software for prerendered video along with E&S' Spherical 3D for real time computer graphics finally allows stereo to wrap completely around the dome to immerse audiences in 3D imagery. It's fulldome 3D the way it was meant to be."
